well from my experience, not many of them aren't power hungry, but core 2 duo's are still very large, and do take more power than say, a 2800 sempy...

By all of 3 Watts -
Sempron 2800+ = 62W TDP,
Core 2 Duo = 65W TDP

The C2Ds have a power consumption that's far lower than the P4s, or most other CPUs.

A 500W Seasonic would be unnecessary if a high powered video card is out of the question.

i see, but this would create an unneccasary bottleneck, where if he ever decided to, say, upgrade his gpu, his power supply would be insufficient
