i'm looking at the TV Wonder Elite TV Turner Card, PCI

is it any good, i'm looking for recording back in best quality

or suggest another card.

Some USB devices still use the onboard sound... Personally, I don't like USB capture cards(or most anything else USB) If you're going to be doing video work with some external card, get a firewire based one. They produce much better results and are typically much easier to set up. Really, no drivers are required...

i know this has nothing to do with this at all but why do usb perherspals require drivers and firewire dont. just curious

i have heard that firewire is better for video editing, etc...but not many comps...other than these latest ones come with a firewire port...but its his call....we're just hear to guide you onto the right path

yeah the case doesnt have firewire port, but the lappy does but i wont be using it on the lappy unless the tv cable cannot reach my rig.

either going with pci or usb since the agp ones all in wonders and i wouldnt need another graphic card.

wel its your call...i only recommended the usb because you would still have a pci slot avail. and some of the usb tuners look stylish next to the sys...frankly...i would recommend an external device...not because i am too lazy to open my comp...but it can have benefits...your call mang...im out...and remember if your not satisfied with what you bought i got one word for ya...ebay...peace!!!

Eh, hehe, well I forgot you said TUNER ^^; Firewire is simply a video input, you'd have to use a VCR for tv tuning...

Firewire is just much more standard than USB(when it comes to video editing). It requires no additional hardware if you have a device(say a camera with firewire) In your case, you'd have to get some sort of converter to go from RCA to firewire. THey go for around 200, but they are worth it!

Why is it better? The firewire bus is about 20% faster than USB 2.0. It requires less CPU. I actually have NEVER, EVER dropped a frame while working with Firewire. My other capture cards, both PCI and USB drop them all the time. For the noob's, that causes jerky videos and such. The quality is also perfect DVD quality. Firewire will also work to export videos with no quality loss. Just try doing that with your TV Out on your video card :P

OK, I'm finished!

i'm getting a card simply to watch tv since the tv sorta has this static problem but not on the monitor so to watch and record shows and stuff i probably wont be doing any video editing.

I'm using Pinnacles pctv-pro to watch and record tv and i'm very happy with it, it's a pci card though..

Do all USB's and PCI's do that (drop frames)? Or do you just have shitty ones :P

It's due to the FireWire architecture, not bad USB devices.

FireWire is a 400Mbps connection, yet it's better at real world throughput than the 480Mbps USB 2.0 interface.

I've never known anyone having much luck with external interfaces for TV viewing. You wouldn't want an All-in-Wonder or something of that nature?

LOL, USB 1.1 WILL drop frames unless you capture like stamp sized video... USB 2.0 will much easier than most PCI cards just because it requires much more CPU to run. Hehe, and yes, I have some shitty cards, even some of my PCI cards are junk. However, they are much better than the USB cards I've used. Best, over all, is firewire.

the all-in-wonder that i bought was trash! 64mb agp card and it sucked so much it wasnt even humourus. although i didnt try capturing with it, its just that i only had another agp so when i put in my all-in-wonder card i had to use it as my main video card, it was so terrible even in windows that i couldnt stand it long eneugh to find out how good the video capture was..
btw anywone wanna buy a all-in-wonder 7500 agp? hehe

If your going to spend 100.00 get an ATI HDTV wonder. At least it will be High Definition capable should you be within antenna distance to a signal. You can check this website for that info.

www.antennaweb.org

Look for the digital channels.
