Suggest CPU config for gaming desktop

Plz suggest me cpu config for gaming and general desktop.

I want to play games like assassin creed and other games.

Cheap n best is appreciated. :)

any opinion as to AMD or Nvidia, and AMD or Intel?

Once that is answered, and I have the required info for indian sites, Ill get you a build list going.
 
I m using AMD in my pc n hav intell laptop
both r good
bt i hav heard for gaming amd is better but gets heated very quickly

so anything that is good...
 
Mobo - Get good brand Asus/ Gigabyte. or asrock if you want good value. Get get something with 4 x ram slot. and support usb 3.0
AMD - Go for AMD970 or 880G chipset AM3+ socket
Intel - Go for Z68 chipset

RAM - I personally don't have perference, but usually go for big brand. Probably get DDR3 1600, 2x4GB or 2x2GB.

Video card - with your budget, probably 6770 1 GB

PSU - Good quality 500W, like Seasonic/ XFX/ Consair/ Antec/ PC Power and Cooling, etc.

case - go for something with good cable management. But I don't know what availiable in your country.
