Suggestions, building a hardcore gaming PC

I'm thinking about building a new PC. The one im using is a 4 1/2 yr old Dell XPS. i built my first computer back in 2000 so i know what im doing when putting it together and also know the basics. but now im completely lost when looking for parts. i was looking for some suggestions u guys can give me when selecting parts. I want something that will last me a couple of yrs and will run all the upcoming games and whatever may come out in the future without any serious issues. My budget is about 3k-3.5k. will need to include a monitor since this PC has an old CRT monitor. I do have a 42 inch Pioneer Plasma HD tv that i could connect the computer to. but do not know if that is a good idea. any help u guys can throw at me would be great :D

remember my budget is 3 - 3.5k
 
dont waste money on 2 graphic cards.

just get an 8800gt or wait for the new models to come out.

go for quad core cpu.
power supply's are the most important component in your computer.
dont waste money on buying super expensive ram.
 
what is it you'd like us to do, give you a list of different parts to put a PC together?
all you have to do is say "yes please :)"

Yes please .. i want to build a PC that is really nice that will be great for the next 2 - 3 yrs that wouldnt need much in upgrading.. i mean yes the video card may need a upgrade in a yr or so but thats expected.

the PC would be used for hardcore gaming. A list of parts would be great :)
 
Quad core processor

3 gigs of RAM

high end video card

fast 10k RPM sata2 HD - like a raptor

Decent motherboard and powersupply

done.

Thats all you will need to make a high end gaming rig.

However at some point (imo, around 2k), its pointless to keep dumping money into a computer. Even the best of the best right now will only last so long and the price/proformance ratio is ridiculously not worth it.

And see, the 2nd gfx card which doesnt yeild an amazinggain, 2nd raptor (just get normal hd if you need more space) is like 500$. Both will yield little and can save you 500$ if cut out or reduced...but if money is seriously no object, go for it, and PM me. Ill give you my address and you can send any extra money you have to me :D

wait ... when u gave me that list JimKonow u didnt mean to give me 2 grahics cards just gave me a choice of the bundle or just the seperate card. or did u intend that i instal 2 cards?

I believe he was intending you use the two cards for sli.
