Suggestions for a ~$2000 gaming build?

Hey all. Well, it is getting to be around that time to build a new rig for gaming/video editing and I am hoping to get some initial suggestions and tips as I have somewhat lost track of what is going on in the hardware world right now.

As I said, my price range falls around $2000 and that is just for the box--I do not need peripherals or operating system or anything like that. I will be running Windows 7 professional 64-bit as well as another version for increased compatibility (Either Windows 7 professional 32-bit, or XP 32-bit), at least initially. On thing to note is that my natural tendancy these days is to go with Intel processors and Nvida graphics cards, but I am not necessarily opposed to AMD/ATI if you can justify it.

So, that is about it as far as general expectations, just looking to build the fastest, coolest, quietest machine that I can for $2000, and my priorities are in that order (Speed > temp > noise).

Thanks!

Hard to justify amd when they are not on top atm, ati on the other hand...

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 - 278.99

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB - 209.99

SAPPHIRE 100281SR Radeon HD 5870
- 379.99

CORSAIR CMPSU-850HX 850W

Antec Twelve Hundred - 159.99

SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R - 31.99

+1

But I would suggest a SSD for OS + Programme. cheaper HDD for storage and RAM

You can get free Microsoft software if your school is eligible for it, I will get Windows 7 soon :D Maybe next week, the OEM version :D

Maybe he's on college or something remember I have windows 7 professional OEM right now =]

This ;)

Yeah, I already have the release versions of Windows 7 prof in both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Do you know how the crossfire support is looking for that card and windows 7? When I take out the cost of the OS I could get 2 of those cards and still be about on budget. Think I should wait on that until 7 has been released for a while?

got the .ISO from my school

I'm pretty sure we understood your point in your last post, without you posting the bandwidth killer picture. :P

Lol it was 2.2 MBs guess how long it took to upload on dial up? like 20 min lol (I'm at school right now)

2x5870? I mean I like the idea also. But that system would be a bottleneck for 2x5870 not to mention wtf do you need 2 for?! :P
Actually that wouldnt really be bottlenecked by two 5870's, and if he wants the best performance two 5870's is the way to go. If he doesnt need the full power of two 5870's he can just drop one and go for a nice 1920x1200 display such as this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047

Two 5870's would be similar in performance if not better(due to two gpu's vs four) than quad SLI GTX295's.

you ruined the rest of my day. I am going to sit here and dream of 2x5870's until I fall asleep. Imagine the benchmarks!
