Suggestions for a new vid card?

Hey guys. I just got a new comp (yes for xmas) and I was wondering if someone could recommend a solid video card for my current setup.

It's currently running 2.0 ghz dual core, 3 g ram with 500 g hd, under a 300 w power supply (i'm most likely going to bump it up to 500 w sometime soon). My mobo only has pci slots on it, but I didn't expect to go with anything else.

Anyone who knows their vid cards have any suggestions? I pretty much only asked for the desktop so I could upgrade it and play games.

Thanks!

Edit: I'm not looking to be too hardcore (though I will in the future hopefully). Just medium graphics settings will suffice.

i think for what u describe that u want to do, i would get a geforce 9600 GT for like only 100$ canadian. :)

depends though, is your case ATX or micro ATX?

cause i have a micro atx case but ive had trouble looking for a 500w power supply for my 9800 GT which just fits

Its a regular ATX. I'll look into that card. Thanks :D

Since you mention a power supply, is there a power requisite on running the GPU you suggested?

400/450W with 26a on the +12v rail is recommended for nearly all of the 9 series cards I believe. I would definitely upgrade the stock power supply because it is probably low quality and will not be able to power the card well.
