ive got a amd phenom ii x4 940 quad core 3.00ghz am2+ on a asus m4n78 pro motherboard. im looking at buying a corsair h50 or corsiar h70 for cooling and some more ram (8gb ddr2 800mhz). All my system specs can be found in my sig.

Whats the maximum oc you would recommend for this cpu?

3.8ghz?

Haha I feel like I'm your dedicated responder for all of your posts :P

Assuming yours isn't the Black Edition (based off your other post), you can probably get a safe overclock around 3.6 GHz, maybe 3.8 GHz (I'd start at 3.4 and run Prime95 and if it passes, go up from there; remember, smallest increments possible!) I had my 925 (stock 2.8 GHz) up to 3.8 GHz, but wasn't fully stable enough for normal usage and I used a Zalman CNPS9700 cooler.

I run mine now at 3.6 GHz all the time and it passed Prime95 for 24 hours so I'm sure you can get it up there as well.

i think its more what your board and psu can do, vs the chip, if your board sucks, like mine does, hitting 3.8 will take more volts than it should, however there is also the fact mine is a C2 stepping vs a C3 which does mean alot too... im not familiar with the 940 tho...is there a c3 stepping variant to it?
