Summer Upgrade - Thoughts?

yup like mentioned danny just forget the SLI thing its a waste of money and not needed.

look at what thatguy done,he sold one of his crossfires to buy a phone :)

i would invest in a better cpu and mobo.

Im doing exactly the same as you mate in the summer, exept im staying with the same motherboard as its 45nm ready and im just buying 4gb of faster ram :)

as for my GT,theres no need to upgrade it yet same as your GTS.

I agree with others regarding SLI being mostly a waste of money...

But I question myself, what do you do now that requires more power ?
How much of a performance gain will you get from it ?

If it isn't a big, I'd wait a bit more, until it is actually needed.

Otherwise, well the Q6700 sounds like a nice deal.

I'm going to University next year and I will be doing a fair bit of 3D Animation work so it will help out there... Also, I feel it'll be more future proof for me.

If you're going to University next year, you might as well start saving for a good rendering card. ;)

For now, use the money for the Q6700 :)

In that case, if I were you, but that's just me, I would wait until I get to university, see what needs to be upgraded... all along prices will come down and new CPUs will be out, so you will be able to buy something for the same price but being more future proof. And if by any chance u can spend 1 year without upgrading, then you will definitively get a new CPU which will be a more significant upgrade than what you are currently looking to do. But as I said, that's just me.

next year that rig will be so outdated :o,dont forget how fast technologys is going these days mate.

you would be best just getting your quad now and saving for a whole new build for next year and when the time comes to start Uni then build a nice rig.

Well, I actually start Uni in September... But, Next year, sorta... :P

Anyway, I've decided to get the EVGA 750i FTW and either a Q6700 or a Q6600. Then, maybe at a later date, consider putting another GTS in.

would you really see a huge difference between the q6600 and the q6700? if you could go for the q9450, 12mb of cache

Have you considered maybe getting a new monitor?

I think the Q6600 may be a better option as it's cheaper, but I'll have to see when the new CPU's come out how much the prices will drop by. I'm also hoping with the release of the new GPU's, the price of the GTS will drop too! :D

Monkey, I have, but I don't think I'd need a bigger one, I have a standard 19" at the moment, and it's fine for me :)
