Super Computer Help!

That would be probably be a little more involved then what is being looked for there. The mention of some gaming involved points at the more conventional approach since many games have to have a cd/dvd in the drive used. For a work horse type build with the extra memory used(4gb) over a the average 32bit desktop you don't have to go super elaborate but simply plan around the type of uses the system will see. You can see a good build with a single cpu do the work.

im sorry im jsut kinda stuck in the middle of this , he told me he really wants to run the 9800s in the system, so................. i guess build a system around the 9800s :P , i have been reading what u all have said, using the xeon processors and the quad FX graphics cards. ill reread ur posts and tell him all ur input :)

thanks a bunch :)

and oo update * its for himself not his brother, but for the same use but hes a programmer and is in graphics design, and wants to play future DX10 game so that why he wants the 9800s, hes building this computer also to help his brother out with oil excavation.

sorry if im being complicated, im just a messenger, with not much knowledge

You can build one that will work well in one or the other applications, not both.

Just tell him he can have a great gaming machine, but only a decent cad machine, or he can have it the other way around. But it will not do both great.

When it comes to running cad, you need to build a specific machine for that. Usually a work station class system.

ic , well imma email him to tell him about the xeon prc, and the quad FX cards

thanks guys !!

I would readily agree on a need for two not one build especially for a system geared to run 64bit with large amounts of ram. That will readily see problems since even the new DX10 capatible games coming out since they will still be 32bit not 64bit as this time.

For graphics design and CAD plus engineering applications in many forms as well as exploration type softwares you are in a totally different class of machine there. You don't bring a soccer ball to the ice rink for hockey.
