Super hot processor

Hello! I've recently changed my pc casing from a standard case to a Cooler Master G-Lite 370. My processor is a Pentium 4 and no, i haven't overclocked it. But the problem is, after assembling all the parts and plugged it on, the processor's temperature suddenly bursts up till 78'c, that's only in idle..not till i open any light applications like Windows Media Player or Microsoft Paint...i'm using Windows 7 and can someone help me with this problem????

Did you happen to take off the heatsink when you swapped parts over? Did you put fresh thermal paste on before putting the heatsink on? Cause that's what it sounds like to me.

Either you need to reapply thermal paste or the heatsink is not on the cpu properly. Did you remove the heatsink at all? If so, then you need to remove all old thermal paste and clean cpu and heatsink with alcohol and then reapply new thermal paste.

the thermal paste is a good place to start, but also remember that just because it says it is running at 78C doesn't mean that it actually is running at 78C. if you've been swapping hardware out and changing software there are lots of areas for errors or damage to sensors to happen.
