surround sound help needed

i have a 6.1 surround sound setuo, but my problem is that doom doesnt recognize it, i played cod and it found it and i was able to use full on surround , but for some reason doom doesnt like surround sound on my computer and wont let me use it anyne have any ideas?

problem solved, I guess 6.1 and 7.1 arent as similar as 5.1 is to 6.1

What was the solution? I got it to play on 6.1 first time through without any settings or nothing (aside from checking the box for surround sound) :)
