Swapping CPUs?

I never really came around to asking about this, but how do you switch in a new CPU? Do you just take the old one out and put the new one in and everything is all good?

Or are there steps you need to take in the BIOS (Flashing and such) before/after putting in a new CPU?

The reason why I am asking is, I never really changed the CPU itself. Every upgrade I made always involved buying a new Motherboard + CPU. (AMD to Intel upgrade wise)

Pretty much nothing, i think it's supposed to be good to clear the cmos, and sometimes to re-install windows so it re-setsup to the new hardware

Just make sure the bios supports the new cpu and change it out. Nothing else is required. No reinstall or clearing cmos required....

Are you looking at upgrading the i3 you have now?

Any 1155 CPU will be compatible, but if you're interested in the new ivy bridge chips, you will have to update your BIOS, if your motherboard supports the ivy bridges processors.

Oh no, I was just wondering as I have never upgraded just my CPU before. I was just wondering how I would go about doing so if I ever need to.

The i3 is plenty enough processing power for me, I see no use in a quad-core since I mainly just game on my computer.
