Swapping HDD into new build

When I get the money for it I plan to build a portable gaming PC for LANing events and the such. Is it possible to put the main HDD from my current gaming rig into a hotswap bay (Which I can install) and then put a hotswap bay into the LANing build and use it as main HDD and then just swap the hard disks in and out of each PC? Or am I better off just keeping all the HDDs and data seperate for both PCS?

It'd be more cost effective to just get a cheap LANning hard drive.

But as above, Windows gets cranky between builds, especially if you won't have exactly the same hardware between them.

If you are swapping OS drives, Windows is going to see it as new hardware (if it even works), and will likely throw activation errors as it thinks it's a new PC.

I get your idea, you want to have the same data and apps on both, but it just won't work. Why not just bring your current PC with you or get a gaming laptop?
