swapping headphone and microphone ports around

I recently broke my 3.5mm headphone socket on my laptop and was wandering whether it was possible to make my microphone socket act as my headphone one as I never use it. Any suggestions on how to do this would be very welcome

if you know how to soder, crack that baby open and just re-run the lines from the headphone jack to the mic line, im not 100 percent on if it will work, but dont see why it wouldnt if you do it right
