swapping laptop hardrive

okay so i have a spare 2.5in 40gb 5400rpm lappy drive, i'm planning to remove the 100gb that came with my lappy since my xp 64 bit came i would like to try it out. i know i'll need a screwdriver but do i need to split the lappy in half? or is the slot under the lappy like the RAM slot?

My lappy has a switch on the bottom and you push the switch to the side and the harddrive slides out the side of the lappy....yours may be different though

Look around, you might find a diagram of your laptop and how to disasemble it... Most though, just split in half as you say. Most laptop's don't have user serviceable harddrives so you will have to rip into the guts of your laptop.
