Has anyone else made this change. i'm having nothing but problems. thank god i saved the old widows during install because i was missing 10 drives and couldn't connect. i got them all from there though. my screen resolutions are all different and i cannot get anything to set how it was before. thinking about going back. atleast to home premium 64:mad:

not sure i had all the specs saved, but there gone now, lol. i am having problems with everything. flash player won't install. Bitdefender isn't compatible with vista 64 bit. and theres almost no programs on the uninstall list so i can get rid of the junk

xp x64 bit is terrible

dont get xp

just reinstall vista x64 which is what you shopuld have done in the first place

MS do not reccomend doing an upgrade from a 32 bit os to a 64 bit one, it causes problems. a clean install is best.

...

XP x64 is not horrible, it's a great piece of software  Other than the fact that finding drivers for whatever hardware is close to impossible...

Open the side of your case, find the motherboard model, Google it, and download drivers from the manufacturer's website...

Then get xp (32-bit if you don't have more than 4 GB RAM). It's much better than vista.

Care to explain? How is XP much better than Vista?

You need to update your drivers and then reinstall your OS. Do that and your problems should fix themselves.

Why would you update the drivers, and then reinstall the OS... When you reinstall the OS, you lose everything including drivers.

the key is to use the windows server 2003 drivers, not the xp ones

exactly. Upgrades with xp and vista arent like upgrades with older oses
the reason it needs so much space is it works in the same way that the file and settings transfer wizard does.

xp is better because it needs half RAM to do same stuff that you would need for vista. (seen games' readme: "RAM: XP: 512 MB, Vista: 1 GB"). It also has many useless processes which require more RAM and HDD space.

Well, that was me trying it out on my laptop, lol. i got Vista 64 going on the new desktop and it works amazingly. i have no scores less than a 5.6. exept for my 3d is still a 1.0, can't figure that out because i have a ATI 4850 video card.

So why don't you use Windows 2000? It uses half the RAM as XP, and has fewer processes.

With newer technology comes higher requirements, people hated that XP required so much more then 2000.

you got the newest ATI Catalyst drivers installed?
disabled the onboard video?

the board i got does not have on board video, i donwnloaded a newer driver that the one that came with it. wheres the place to get the VERY newest version so i can check
