Switching OS's

Hello everyone, I am planning on switching my OS from Windows XP to Ubuntu, but I have some questions regarding OS's.

Do I need to convert my documents, music, etc. before I switch, or are Windows files compatible with Ubuntu? Are all my files and documents erased once I install the new OS? Once I install Ubuntu, will I be able to switch freely between Ubuntu and Windows XP? Or once I do it there's no going back?

I've heard about Ubuntu, and I'm just wondering if it's worth it trying it out.
Thank you.

No, your setup will be a dual boot system. (xp+ubuntu)
No need to convert documents or whatsoever and you'll be able to swtich back and forth.
In your case, you have to create a free partition (1o+gb) for you to install ubuntu

and yes ubuntu is worth trying out

Yes the Ubuntu install disk will give you the option to install as dual boot or to use it as stand alone OS on your PC. I run Ubuntu on a PC all by itself and it's a dream. Very user friendly, but some working knowledge of linux is helpful.
