Switching out bad MOBO and PSU and hitting problems

Hi,

Looking for some help. It was determined by best buy that my motherboard and power supply were bad so I picked up some replacements today. I went from the corsair 550 to a corsair 600 watt. My motherboard was an Asus PK5pl VM. My new board is a Gigabyte S-series GA-G41M-ES2L. I believed I had about everything hooked up correctly and when I powered it up there is a green and red light showing on the chassis and a loud continuous beep, no boot up either. Can anyone suggest what I have wrong? I switched the processor from the ASUS board to the Gigabyte.

Some other issues I am having are pin related. I have a set of pins labeled Spkout R, Spkout L, Mic-BIAS, Return R, Return L, Mic in, and Grnd. My manual shows two set ups for front panel audio (am I correct I need these plugged in for my HD on board sound?). I hope the pic is big enough to see, had to shrink it to make it fit forum specs.

On the front side header I also see one spot for a IDE H.D. LED (2pins + & -) however I have two plugs coming from my chassis labeled H.D. LED each with 2 pins. Do I need this or both? I have one Sata hard drive and one IDE hard drive. My LCD has never really worked on my chassis however the front led lights are nice.

And finally I have some pins TPB +-, TPA +-, 2 GRNDs, and a VCC. I believe this is for firewire and I will not be using but want to make sure. Thanks for any help been working on it for about 5 hours now. Getting it to boot up and getting the sound going are my main concerns.

Sorry to post twice. I guess the front panel audio is just that for the front panel. I would like to hook it up but not really used so figuring out the reason it did not boot is the primary issue.

Hi,

I believed I had about everything hooked up correctly and when I powered it up there is a green and red light showing on the chassis and a loud continuous beep, no boot up either.

Sounds like a memory or short bios beep.

Make sure the memory is in correct.

When you swapped the board, did you make sure the standoffs under the new board are in the right places? Not one where is doesnt belong and shorting out on the bottom of the board?

A continuous long beep is a memory problem either the memory sticks have failed or the memory is in the wrong slots.

Actually the manual said a continuous long beep is a video card issue. I realized I didn't have the 12v ATX power connector plugged in. I also moved a hard drive to give the power to the video card more room. After this it still wasn't working and it turned out to be that I had unplugged the graphics card when I plugged in the 12v ATX power. It is now booting up but goes to the windows did not start properly screen and my keyboard does not work to even select a restart method. I am able to enter BIOS with no problem. Do I need to reformat, Benny Boy said windows may not work with a new MB?

Also, about the other pin layout questions in my first post, the pin lay outs are on page 25, 26, and 27 of the manual. Benny Boy listed a link but here it is again. I also put them together in a JPG. The pins I have are in my first post. Also have a wire from the chassis that says CPU on a label and is exposed at the end of the wire with some plastic over it, is this some sort of temperature monitoring thing?

Seems to be working fine (the repair), although I hit a button by accident and not sure if it is erasing my old stuff or not. Most of it was backed up though so thanks for the help.

Not sure what I did wrong but it was only booting from the disc so I backed up my data and did a fresh install. Seems to be working great now. May drop it back at best buy and make them help with the pin issue since they were the ones that unplugged everything last time and I have 30 days for them to look at any problems. Thanks for the help.
