Switching power-brick-cord-thing for my laptop!

Can it harm my laptop if i change my power-brick-cord-thing if it has all the same numbers except the amps the old one (burned to death) had 4.74 amps and the new one i got had 3.42 amps, but they still put output 19V? Can i somehow damage my computer, thou it seems to work just fine?

Im sorry for bad grammar (im from Denmark), and for me being a total noob, but I dont anything about electricity :)
 
Check what the requirements of your laptop are. If you use a brick that is underpowered (in either voltage or amps) then you could fry your laptop, just like you could fry it if it was overpowered.

Just note that you can use a higher amperage power adapter, as the laptop will only draw as many amps as it needs. Don't use an adapter that is too high in voltage, or you'll cook your laptop.
 
The voltage both ingoing and outgoing has the same amount. (Ingoing 200-240volts and outgoing 19 volts), the only thing thats different is the amps. (old one 4.74 amps and new one 3.42 amps) so does that mean that i will fry my laptop? All the other numbers are the same thou.

Like I said, if you run it for an extended period of time with a lower amperage than the laptop requires you will eventually kill it. Check your laptop for the requirements.

Look on the bottom of the laptop, and see how many amps the laptop requires. If it's 3.42 or less, you're fine. But if the original power supply was 4.74 then the laptop probably requires 4.74, which means don't use the new one.
