SWTOR Hardware?

Hey guys, I recently purchased the new Star Wars MMO as my computer exceeds the minimum requirements to play the game.
My specs are (don't laugh):
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core 2.3GHz
ATI Radeon HD 6770
MSI MS-7508 Motherboard (AM2+ Socket)
3Gb of RAM

Minimum Requirements for SWTOR:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+
WIndows XP with 1.5Gb RAM or Better
ATI X1800 or better

I had to update my graphics card to the 6770 and I reformatted to windows 7 from XP, but other than that everything else meets or exceeds the sys requirements. Unfortunately, in some parts of the game I'll be running around 30fps in low populated areas and then it will go down to less than 10fps in battlegrounds...needless to say is unplayable. I couldn't figure out what it was so i went through the config files of the game and made sure my drivers are up to date...still no fix. I ran some benchmark tests basically which said my CPU was a bottleneck.. (which is strange because it should still run SWTOR no problem) so I was thinking about getting the AMD Phenom II x4 840 3.2Ghz Quad Core as a replacement considering it is under $100, but it happens to be an AM3 Socket which I have read will fit in an AM2+ not positive though. Let me know if you guys think this will fix the problem or if there is something I have overlooked!

Before running off and upgrading hardware, check that it's not your network slowing you down. Obviously, the more activity that is going on around you, the slower it's going to run. Check your Latency when it's running slow and see that it's not too high.

Also, try lowering the graphics settings. If it really is a hardware issue, that can easily improve your frame rates.
 
Yeah, I'm guessing you're playing at too high of settings. If it passes the minimum requirements, all that means is that it can play the game at the lowest possible settings.
 
Yeah, I already ran it on the lowest settings and even went into the config files of the game to make it even lower quality, but this did not help. Ironically, my computer runs the game at about the same fps on high as it does on low. And my network usually has good latency so thats not the problem.
 
Your CPU is good enough to play SWTOR, no need to replace it. Your internet shouldn't have an impact on your frame rates anyway, so I would recommend trying to enchance your computer's performance.

Try and run CCleaner and then Defraggler, both available from Piriform

Yes, on an online game, your internet connection speed can have a huge impact on your frame rates.

To OP, what do you mean your latency is "usually" good? Did you check it while you were getting such poor performance?

Your hardware really is fine for running the game at decent settings. I feel something is going wrong here.
 
When I say 'usually' i mean about 95% of the time I'm running great latency. I'm usually running 30fps+ in uncrowded areas, but in high population areas and in battlegrounds I'm running sub 10fps.. which is horribly low considering my specs. I just reformatted my computer and updated all of my drivers so that shouldn't be the problem. Thats why I'm leaning toward a hardware issue, but then again maybe its something else I'm not aware of. Let me know what you guys think!

Well, I mean, in the game, in the bottom right corner attached to the map, is a symbol that looks like a signal bar, when you hover (or click) on it, it shows you what your network latency is. That's what I've been trying to get at.
 
Try lowering your shading. When your in an open/uncrowded area it isn't that hard on the gpu, then when it's crowded and now there's tons of people and enemies and explosions and stuff the effects and shadowing might be draining it.
