Symantec Nightmare

Ok. I have Symantec AntiVirus that was already installed on this old laptop that was given to me awhile back.

Ever since then it has been making the computer run slower than crap (I think it's scanning files) and now the Windows Security Alert bubble is popping up and saying "Status is Unknown for Anti-Virus". So I tried uninstalling it and it says I need an uninstall password to do it. I don't know the password, so is there a program that will uninstall anything with unknown password. If I can get Symantec uninstalled I plan on replacing it with AVG.

Thanks for any help

i tryed un-installing Symantec from my old computer and it asked me 4 a password also, didnt know it, soo i just left it alone and downloaded AVG..

Do you have administrative rights to uninstall Norton on your account in windows? If not, that might be a reason.
Also, if you do and your account is password protected, you can try using your account password. Such as, if you use password "windowsxp" as your login password, use that.

Provided, here norton shows how to change the password, not sure if it'll be the right edition to your norton, but you can see if it is and try if it works.

I had corporate edition and I was given software to uninstall it completly, I don't have access to it now but you should be able to find a third party uninstaller.

oo well, if you think it's slow than it should be, do a couple scans 4 viruses and spyware 2 make sure it's clean..
