System Beep

Alright, well now that the hard drive is out of the question, as it seems, because i did not hear any beeps with the internal speaker out, then I put it in, and a little later came a beep, it could be a coincidence, but I imagine there is an error somewhere.

It can happen anytime, be it I'm just sitting there doing something, or I am just letting it run.

If you'd like me to try and record the sound, I could do so.

It's a single short beep.

I have a Gigabyte P55-USB3 Rev. 1.0 model board.

Or could it be caused by one of the sides being opened?

Thanks again,

Robert

Hey tremmor!!! :)

Thanks for that post, but the beep happens after it boots up and everything, but that sure will come in handy for when I get in trouble in that area, which probably will happen sooner than later. lol

At least your system beeper works. :good:

I can't figure out why mine will not - when I set beep control to enable in the BIOS, apparently my mobo (or something) auto switches it back to disable.

I started a thread on this yesterday entitled "Abit AL-8 mobo issue(?)".

Im not sure. I would start looking in the hardware of device manager. Do ya see any exclamation in there? did ya try updating your devices maybe for another driver?
What about the clock in the system tray? do ya have the proper time and date.

actually i have never heard a beep after windows starts. Its always during the boot process only. not in windows. Got to start somewhere.

lol boa12. Do you have an internal speaker connected the correct way?

Well POST showed up this time.

I don't see any exclamation marks in device manager, clock is correct.

What is the best way to install new drivers? Just go to the motherboard site, ect? Or should I do a Q-Flash?

If need be, I'll record the sound.

in device manager goto the devices and right click / update driver.

if you want to update the bios i would be careful with that one. goto the manufacture and find your model. Look at the updates and see if it will fix your problem. is it critical or security. is it related to an issue you might have. will it speed it up. I myself would not take it if it won't fix your problem. Want to dump your motherboard and shut down? this is a good place to do it.
It could have something to do with it. maybe not. it was an idea. usually updates is related to specific hardware. if you don't have the hardware then you do not need to flash.

Everything so far is up to date.

So should I shut down computer, remove the battery for 5mins, then put it back in and boot up?

I haven't heard it yet, after I removed ram and re inserted after blowing on it and the ports. But the hard drive hasn't warmed up all the way either.

Hmm, everything seems to be okay so far, maybe something to do with the reseating memory, hard drive temp, ect?

nothing the matter with trying. that's the way i do it. not all answers and maybe not have a clue. For sure it would blow it out if going that direction. power supply, tower. nice and easy. static free air if ya have it.

Alright, I'll give it ago. I think I just heard the noise. I might record it just to see if anybody has heard it and what it might be.

I'll post back later. Updating windows now though, ton of updates, this maybe was a problem. lol

Thanks again. :)

Could be a number of things. Maybe a Windows service that cant start up, setting off a single beep. Maybe the CPU fan speeed falling below the lowest setting in the bios setting off a beep.

Im watching. im curious. Ive never heard of getting a beep in windows though. im sure your right also. My question is did you ever hear of getting a beep while in windows. If anything and maybe possible, a serious issue.
I would like to know also.

Okay, well after I got back from movies, I removed battery for a bit, put it in, after disconnecting hard drive stuff and replugging back in, ect. I then went to start it and it didn't start. I turned off power, removed it again and put it back, moved one the cables over to a different power cable on the power supply and it worked. So could this be a power supply issue? I might test it with a different power supply and see how it goes. Also, could it be from the auto cpu fan speed? Or a processor noise?

Updating some drivers on some things...

Hmm, reseting CMOS and that might have worked. I can now put it in sleep mode without it starting right back up and such, so we'll see. haha.
