System Files

Hi,

I just used a registry cleaner to cleanup my registry beacuse I have been having very odd things going on.

Like I can't access MyComputer or the Control Panel.

I found out while cleaning the registry that some of the system files can't be found, which is causing the problems.

I was wondering if I simply coppied the files off of the install disc into the computers system folder would the computer be able to use them?

or do the files actually get changed/modified?

you can also try running SFC /scannow from the command line as long as you have your XP cd... cohen's idea will work too... probably better but Im just throwing this out there incase your restores are jank.

What if it is a Windows NT workstation instead of XP?

I was just wondering, when doing a system repair, how likely is it to corrupt a machine. Of course I don't mean so it doesn't boot, but so the software won't work anymore.

NT... hmm try reinstalling the latest service pack... just a stab... is this a work computer.... maybe someone is trying to tell you to upgrade ;)
