System restore taking forever!

Hey i've been trying to do a system restore on my laptop. tried a few months ago and it went for 24 hours n didn't complete. tried yesterday left it all night. still said "system restore is initialising, doing it now in safe mode, been going for half an hour will see how it goes but has anyone got a suggestion for this? ,my laptop is having so many issues im considering putting it back to factory settings. thanks in advance

what kind of system is it? and is it system restore or system repair, forgive me, but i never had problem with system restore (factory restore) but had same problem every time with system repair.

also, if the system back up is not there or missing some files or corrupted, this can create similar problem as well.

windows 7 home premium, HP DV6 3030tx, system restore, shouldn't be any missing files

What are you backing up? If it is just things like photo's, music and movies then I would recommend just transfering all these files into a external HDD.

hum, sorry for asking again, but are there two HD partition and second one have about 8-9GB of files, cause i've seen many manufacture have that option even though there isn't any back up.

if so i would suggest depending how the budget it just going online and ordering recovery media will save you time and hassle.
