Ok, My computer was Freezing up, but still music would play . . .

so i did a System Restore back to about a week ago, im wondering, What does System Restore actually change/do.... ive never worked it out.

Thanks,

it restores all changes made to the registry, system files and folders and files bak to the prescribed time...

What this does is backclock the system registry and installed programs to the state the system was when the restore points was created. If you see a bad install of some new program this is one way prior to using other methods like a repair install to recover from that.

One problem often noted about this is the limitation to the current calendar month you are in. In other words you can't restore the system back to a day in june since those restore points are now gone after the first of the month. In fact the lack of seeing more new points created more frequently is a selling point for EasyDesk Software's Setpoint used to manually create new ones at any time of day or night for their retail program. If your system contracts a virus the first thing to do is turn off the restore feature to see all restore points deleted to prevent reinfection later once the system is cleaned up.

But hey, gotta do what ya gotta do... try it and see if that will fix the lock ups, you could also check your startup list

hehe,
but i dont understand how sum of the viruses avoid getting removed even after the system has been restored, i kno rootkits are hard to remove but im talkin abt spyware and malware....

System restore saves a snap shot of your OS at any given restore point, so when you make a restore point at the time you had a virus or didnt know you had a virus and use system restore it will restore to that point with virus and all

One thing that sucks is doing the 2 hour Virus test for my Computer...

I'll do that in a minute, it seems to be going alright atm, Altho whats really bad, is i cant remember what i installed :(

My start bar is like MEGA Small compared too before. . . + Far Cry is gone... Along with my save games :( oh well.

heya StrangleHold,
yea, but tht was before i installed a malware on my pc, i had restored my pc to a pt. whr i had not installed *anything* except microsoft office and windows live messenger

What was the main reason for using the system restore in the first place? Were you seeing problems with Windows or something installed? Or just wanting to see what it did? If the last asking first would have savved you from seeing the system brought before Far Cry and anything else was lost. For troubleshooting there may have been an alternative. Can you reinstall Far Cry?

Ok, My computer was Freezing up, but still music would play . . .

That's the reason i did it, i can now see a increase in performance again.

It seems too of fixed the problem. I Hope.

Yes, I can Re-Install it, its no Biggie, i just felt like complaining...

Microsoft... Who thinks FTW or FTL?

(For the Win, or For The Lose)

Driver clashes and programs attempting to access reserved memory addresses will often cause lockups. You'll see this in games when the drivers for a video or sound card need updating or simply have become lost or corrupted. Some simply become inactive, sound drivers mainly and need to be reinstalled in order to be made active again.
