System slow to recognize IEEE1392 connection - what does this indicate?

I use an Audigy Platinum EX as a Firewire/IEEE1394 interface under XP Pro SP3.

I've noticed that when an O/S install is fresh, when I connect a camcorder with a Firewire connection it recognizes it quickly and I can capture from the camcorder with no problem. As the install ages, there comes a point when it's sluggish to recognize the cam and it can lose the connection.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Audigy drivers but this doesn't seem to make a difference. In fact, after I've unistalled the drivers it will still recognize the camera, although sluggishly like before.

Any ideas what this indicates?

Hard to say, I've done numerous updates. The first thing I do after a fresh install is do an update.
