Tablet issues...

Hey my girlfriend has a tablet laptop and no matter what we do it does not recognize the tablet pen. She had to formatt about 3 months ago due to a faulty hdd that died and now all the settings are there but the pen does not work any suggestions? We have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers and still nothing..

It sounds like the sensors in the screen went. What is the make and model? There may be a troubleshooting or FAQ section to look over on that.

Its a gateway CX2610 i believe its only like 4 months old and already has had to have a new hdd put in due to failure and after that this started happening. Gateway seems to think the pen is bad so they are going to replace it for free but i have my doubts on that being the problem we will see i guess.

http://www.gateway.com/programs/con...er&cm_ite=gateway+cx2610&sg=hm&ph1=8005553006 is one site for looking at the model. If it is not a hardware you may be seeing a problem with the software that comes with it.

Freedom, baby! One of the great things about OneNote is that you can handwrite notes or draw diagrams anywhere on the screen.

Worried about notes getting lost? Then try note flags for even more organizational prowess. These little icons can be used to “flag” an important note.

OneNote also features six different stationery options. Choose how your notes will look. Go for more of a business look or sport an academic flair. http://www.gateway.com/programs/con...e_screen*programs/convertible/software~~shtml

The main trouble with preinstalled software packages is the glitches you run into quite often. My first thought was the pen was the problem which is less likely when looking over the product information on the links above. All it takes usually is one driver damaged or deleted somehow if not missing.

My thought was a driver or something since the hdd died after 2 months and had to be replaced my guess was there was a problem with her tablet stuff that was on the rescue disk but they didnt seem to think that we will see in like 5 days when the new pen is here waht the problem is. Do those pens have batteries in them or soemthing that could cause a problem?

Actually I have to go by the product information available not from experience with this type of portable. I doubt very much you will find any battery inside one of those since it is simply pressed again the screen. This is why I first mentioned a bad screen as a possible cause due to pressure sensors there.

They are very much the same eletronic note pads in that regard with a software package for processing text images drawn on the screen. Gateway isn't one of the better makes out to add to that.

I agree with the technology pc_eye. I told her when she went and got it she wouldnt use it much which she hasnt, and also it was still way to new to try and consider reliable. She found that out the hard way when like 3 months after she bought it the hdd died, and now she is getting a new pen and I have a strong feeling from what i have been reading on the web its something to do with the screen not working anymore lol! Oh well at least she tried. I feel bad though becuase I really do think she is going to use it this semester and she just wants to use it for school poor girl... It wasnt cheap either!

That touch screen stuff stills lacks especially on lower end brands. A good Toshiba or HP laptop would have been a better tool for a student to work with over a unit too complex. Those are still rather too delicate there.

These days you can see some great deals on normal laptops with a normal display. The simplified units usually seem to be the most durable for carrying around back and forth. I serviced over 70 notebooks being given out to students some years back that literally went though a mill. They were covered with a ton dirt and other stuff from being in a factory.

In fact I still have a pair around that simply need an ac adapter. The rest of the parts stripped off dead units for repairs were finally tossed during some house cleaning. Those saw a pounding in their life. Some of the newer models like the Gateway could never take what those saw.

I've worked with several different touchscreen laptops (never a gateway) and none have a battery in the stylist. If you reimaged the new drive with the original softwar it should work fine. If not there must be something wrong with the screen itself.

I forced to agree on the screen itself as the hardware fault to look for. If that checks out the problem would then point at a bad install of the software needed for processing. Look over the disk for any scratches or finger marks from handling. With repeated attempts at getting drivers and other things in a damaged disk would be a repeat problem being seen where what is needed for the screen won't copy fully or simply was lost.
