What do you want to do w/ the tablet?

The HP tx2500 is the cheapest at around $1000. It's probably the best gaming tablet, but is cheaply made and the screen sucks. Other than that, you can also pick up a Dell Latitude XT refurbished for around $1000. It's not any good for gaming, but the build quality and touch screen is VERY good. Probably close to the best, as it's a $2000+ retail laptop. There's also the Levono X61t (not wide screen) and Fujitsu 2010 and 5010.

school work, but games are also a possibility.

Really depends on what kind of games. I believe just about all the laptops I mentioned can play old games w/o problems. I think they can even play WOW on low settings. However for anything more than that, you'll have to look into the HP, as it's the only one with a legit (integrated) chip, HD3200, and can play just about any game out there (newer ones at low settings).

However, I do not recommend the HP. I was pretty close to buying it a few weeks ago until I read a lot about it online, and found out that 1) It's flimsy and feels cheap, all plastic 2) It's battery life is horrendous, like 2 hours if you're careful 3) It gets hot, very hot.

Personally I'd go with a refurbished Latitude XT, that's what I did ;). It can be bought refurbished for less than $1000, which is an amazing deal. It uses capacitive touch instead of resistive touch, which means you dont actually have to press on the screen with your finger, like the ipod touch. The screen is absolutely brilliant and the laptop is thin, sleek and light.

A REAL Tablet PC is a dream to us. Those are now on the market are just warning us: The clock is ticking, the future is coming.

What...? The tablet PCs on the market are not real because...

I know someone who has a Thinkpad X series tablet. Lovely

They are very nice, but just personally don't like how thinkpads looks, the dull matte black plastic and all...

i got a lenovo c200 myself. Looks like a thinkpad except the base and lid are silver and it has orange accents.

I actually owned the TX2530EA for a period of time, and the only thing that felt cheap was the flimsiness of the DVD tray. The newer ones don't get hot, because they're on ZM series processors now, not TL's. Really, head out to Best Buy and check some of them out.

It's flimsy compared to other tablets, as most tablets are made for on-the-go use and made of mostly magnesium alloy/brushed aluminum. Other than that, and the dim and grainy screen, it's a great cheap tablet.

And as for heat output, it's not that bad, but certainly worse than any other tablet out there.

The Fujistu lifebooks are good, my teachers at school have them and they are great!

They are about $1,500... i think....

Does the tx2530ea have a FireWire port ?

I think so, at least the small one.

My Latitude XT came yesterday and I love it! I can tell you it's the best/most professional looking tablet you can get for $900 (refurbished). The screen is a bit creeky so I'm sending it back to Dell for repairs (under warranty ofcourse).
