Taking Wikipedia With Me

I am going to be in a place with no internet for a while (with a laptop), is there anyway I can take the infinite knowledge of Wikipedia with me, knowing that I won't have an internet connection? Basically I'm asking, can I make the Wikipedia database offline and how would I go about doing that?
Regards,
John

i doubt so, wikipedia is an online encyclopedia.
You can get Encarta encyclopedia though, (made by microsoft)
I am sure their is alot of free encyclopedias that you can downlaod fomr the net.

ok....40 gig...that is HUGE! one thing for sure, i will never be able to downlaod that at the reate 3 KB/s
Well, sorry for my false information. :D

now i think about it you need a LAMP env, but it shouldnt be too hard. In fact i may just set one up one day for fun... need a script to regulary get updates though.

What you could do with other sites is google for "offline browsers", you can set how many levels you want to go from the originating page and such. I tried download all of CF and Newegg, but a few hours later i had a few GB's just for CF, and it wasnt close to done, so i cancelled it.

and depends on you skill with lunix, apache, php config

It would be a good learning curve, but time permitting may not be feasable

Think about it guys, he wants it on a laptop, most laptops have like a 60GB to 80GB hdd in them, I would say that its not worth all that time and losing your whole hdd for wikipedia.

i would trade my life for all of wikipedia. its that amazing!!!
Even if you filled up your hdd so you couldn't save anything and it bogged you computer down so it couldn't do crap. Even look at your wikipedia.

I don't know why Wiki....yeah it has a lot of articles that things like Encarta doesn't, but there is also a lot of false information in it.

na if you have a 80gig HD you still have half of it left it would be fiine
Not really, if you have an 80 gig hd you never have 80gigs. First of all some of it isn't usable and then you also have you os installed and all the other programs you have. I am just saying I don't know if he wants to bother with something so huge and slow to download.
