so i ran a memory diagnostics, and the ram came up with errors, thats what i told her, but she replied saying its not a malfunction, and that my compaq couldnt handle that kingston so sshe gave me a different kind that could work, couldnt all ram work on any comp? so did she just bull shitted me? should i call back and get my ram replaced since its life time warrenty...

how old is your compaq? the older compaqs were VERY propriatory and needed a special tpye of RAM. It was one of their downfalls, they did away with the practice about 3 years ago and went with standard memory modules. What's the model number of your compaq, then we can tell you what kind you need. :)

Not quite that simple. To better understand the problem you'd need to provide information on the ram and your motherboard, such as the rating of the ram (pc3200 pc2700 pc2100, or DDR400, DDR333, DDR266, etc.) and the capability of your motherboard to handle ram of different speeds (again, pc3200, pc2700, pc2100, or DDR400 DDR333 DDR266, and so forth). You should find this pretty easily within the mobo manual and ram documentation.

See the RAM101 for a fresher but it sounds like you had ram density issues :) (single vs double sided modules)

ok then what ram would u reccomend that would actually work on the compaq models the s4000v, im going to upgrade to a gig, and dont want any errors when installing since some might not be capatible, its the 2700 series of ram....if so can u post the link so i can buy it at....im in the U.S.
