Hi,

I just re-installed windows and most of my programs because of a worm I got. But now, sometimes on start up, the task bar freezes for like 5 min before I can open programs with it. I dont know why it does this. It did it before to. But, then after a few restarts, Mcafee said it found a virus and deleted it? Also, when i try to update Mcafee 2004 it says its up to date, and i just installed it, so it cant be...

My old computer would do that, ti was b/c it had a worm and tons of programs were opening in the background that couldn't been seen. It was basically overloading my computer with crap, so that it couldn't do much at all til you closed the offenders.

....aaaaah... Im getting so anoying right now. MY computer doesnt really freeze the task bar anymore, but now i cant go to alot of websites, i get errors with some programs, winamp is somehow running all of a sudden when i never even installed it, and worst, I cant visit or get Mcafee to update its definitions. It keeps saying its up to date and its not, and i dont know what to do!?

might want to try using 'hijack this' on your computer clean it out. then you should be able to run mcafee and update it. as a last resort, reformat the hdd and immeadiatly install the windows updates beofre anything else.

I found like 5 virus's and worms and deleted them, and i installed norton 2005 and stuff but my task bar still freezes up on load and i updated norton online, but when i restart it doesnt start up virus scan and says update incomplete??

no go to download.com and get spyware sweeper it has shields so if u do delete something it wont be able to start back up it seriously sped up my comp by like 3 times (i had 2,349 spyware traces and tons of other crap) its free to (but there is a pro version but free is still great)

Well, I used that program, and its still acting wierd. My updates for Norton still wont install right, and windows task bar sits there for like 5 min on load most times. I really dont know what to do anymore.....

he may... sup?

i had this very same problem... do u get a blank blue area where the clock and the tray should b???
if yes it got to do with your hardware, probably from some kind of USB device.
i had this problem for not installing my scanner as properly (TWAIN drivers werent installed good).
anyway, u should sheck that and c if u installed all hardware as u should... i thought i installed all properly, but u can never know...

anyway, try to unplug all your USB device and c if u get the same problem, and then connect 1 by 1 and c whare is the problem.

good luck ;)

Hi,

Yea, It does show some USB drivers are not working in device manager, but my task bar works now finally. I deleted some more worms and whatever. My pc works fine now, but Norton update doesnt seem to work right. Like when i download new stuff for it, it says its installed and to restart. SO I do that, but then when i restart and check back in the program, it says its up to date, but it shows a red X next to update indicating a problem.. but I dont know what that means.

that could mean that u have some kind of virus or what ever that preventing norton of doing it thing (like there is a known virus that prevent NAV to even load and u c a red cross over the tray icon)...

anyway, norton sucks... it install tons of services with windows and i must say i HATE norton!!!
i would recommend AVG, they came with a new version of their free version (7.x.x) and im using it and its great, its light, no more then 2 services, lets face it, all antivirus app r sucks, no 1 gives 1 100% security, so use AVG i think ull like that: http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg70free_298a417.exe

have fun dude ;)
