Anyone seen this before and know how to get rid of it?

C:\WINDOWS\taskib.exe

It's a real nasty...it's on a friends computer and I had him run spysweeper, ewido.

We tried fixing it with hijack this, killbox and Prevx1 with no luck, it keeps comming back.

Start by downloading 'Combofix' to your desktop http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe

Download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this link
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/ You will need it later in safe mode.

Next, update 'Ewido' and 'Spysweeper'.

Now double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Once that has finished, reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.



Run Ewido and let it delete all that it finds
Run Spysweeper and let it delete what it finds.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Reboot and run this online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next, Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here if any infections remain.
 
No luck, we ran combofix, purged all temp files, deleted all system restore files and ran both ewido and spysweeper in safe mode and C:\WINDOWS\taskib.exe still shows up in his hijackthis log and HT cannot fix it?

We could not get kaspersky to do an online scan for some reason it would just freeze.

Any other ideas?

If i remember correctly, you need to use IE to run the scan and the Kaspersky website has to be added to the trusted zone in IE.If you don't, it would run.Also, did you use 'Killbox' in safemode on that file and then manually delete it?.
 
We was using IE when we tried kaspersky, when we tried killbox I dont think it makes a difference because it deletes the file on reboot...I could be wrong though but I have used it many times before and it worked perfect.

He has decided to back all his documents up and reformat after trying everything in the arsenal we even tried smitrem.exe with no luck.

What ever this is it's nasty and keeps adding spyware. I gave buzz a pm maybe he knows what it is and how to get rid of it for future reference but I only found like 6 sites doing a search on google and 5 of them are other forums of people posting hijackthis logs with no responce.

He said he got this from clicking a link someone sent him in aol messenger, just a heads up dont do that...lol!
