Tell Me I'm Not In Trouble.....

I am a Vista user, 64 bit. On an "IT's recommendation" I did the following. I searched on "prefetch" and cleaned out the file. Now my system is very unstable. Some programs take forever to launch. Some never do. The mouse does not work sometimes. Any ideas? Thank you

Have the prefetch files I deleted gone to the trash and if so can I restore them? It looks to me the files are there but wanted further advice. Thank you

Deleting the prefetch files should not have caused any issues. Are you sure you didn't do anything else? Sometimes clearing the prefetch folder is used when programs are having problems loading.

Nothing else. I do notice at this point it "seems" like the PC is more stable and programs are running faster. In attempt to clean up the situation, I tried to do a restore from 3 different dates and all failed. I have a laptop using Vista 32bit that has the same problem when attempting a restore. Once in awhile a restore will work. A Vista issue? I will post if/when my pf issue looks OK. Thank you

I did the same thing to my XP install a couple of years ago. The only thing that worked was to reformat and reinstall. Here's hoping you won't have to do the same.

Maybe you're not allowing Vista to re index your files after the restore.?

You may have to let it settle and catch up after moving stuff around.
