Yes I realise I am a n00b to the site, and you will all probally flame me, but I am ok with that, I am here to learn.

I've been searching through my computer latly, when I came across a program named "telnet". Now I did some research onto what it is, but how do I use it? I've clicked on it and everything, and I am wondering how to logon to it, can someone please help me out?

It is probabaly a virus, as i can see no reason why you would have it, unless you aer running a server. Dont worry about us flaming you either, lol. Im pretty new too.

It's not a virus, Microsoft put it on the computer, run a search on your computer for telnet and you will find it. From what I can conclude it is another form of connecting to remote servers

Are you serious?

Telnet has been integrated with Windows for the longest time.

It's not a virus, it's part of Windows.

Telnet is a standard Internet protocol for accessing remote systems. Check this out for a more detailed explanation.

you dont just connect, you need somewhere to connect to, like a server or a remote desktop connection.... these have to be setup remotely then you log in with the server address username and password that you set up. most webhosting packages have telnet options as well as online data backup solutions... but yeh, you dont just log into telnet, telnet is like the road that you travel along to get to the remote palce, this road has a checkpoint in the middle that requires your logon details (thatss my analogy, dont go using that in a technical conversation)

Where could I find one of these places to connect?

You have to setup a remote location to connect to. Using dragon's analogy; you build 2 houses yourself, and telnet builds the road between them.

...confused about what you are asking. you can set one up virtually anywhere. get 2 computers in your room, setup a connection between them and run the telnet client. it's basically remote desktop, minus the graphical interface i believe.

If you were using 2 different countries, then you would use the internet, and you would have to have a dedicated server you could control. The client would connect to that server using his/her username and password. On your end you would need the host though, could be your own in home server or im sure there are people willing to provide a server (at a fee of course).

Just to note, TELNET is not very secure.
