Ok..I have some weird thing going on that I hope somebody can explain to mean. So I'm built a HTPC using a Antec Black M FusionRemote 350 case. It a pretty small case and I'm running the Phenom 965 BE in it so when its at 100% usage it its quite warm in there. If you take a look at the first picture that I uploaded at imageshack, you'll see that there are 2 exhaust fans to the right of the CPU. On the bottom left there is one intake fan. With this setup, my idle temps are about 28-30°C and with Prime95 running I get to about 60-62°C. AMD's website says 62°C is the hottest it should get so that scared that me a bit so I started researching on the Stock Cooler that comes with it AND the CPU cooler sounds like a jet engine at 6,300 RPM!! Its actually a pretty good cooler for this CPU so I didn't understand why it was getting so hot. So I thought maybe the airflow inside the case. Physics dictates that cool air should be forced inside the case which causes a high pressure area and "pushes" the hot air outside the case through the vents and the help of a exhaust fan. So I rotated the 2 fans to the right of the CPU and now I have 3 intake fans. I also MacGyvered a 4th fan (2nd picture) to be a exhaust. I now idle at like 25-28°C and 58-62°C while running Prime95 still!! BUT my CPU Cooler was at 3,300 RPM...so at this point I'm WTFing. Enter Q-Fan and AMD Cool 'n' Quiet. AMD Cool 'n' Quiet just affected my idle temps so that cool. Disabling Q-Fan on the other hand runs my CPU Cooler at 3,300 RPM and keeps it there. There therein lies my question. Why doesn't the CPU sound like a jet engine and why isn't it going at 6,300+ RPM when Q-Fan is Disabled? The way my set up is now, the temps shouldn't even approach 60°C so I don't get it. So then I popped the top off and stuck a piece of cardboard between the 2 fans and CPU...the CPU Cooler all the sudden started to speed up! I stopped at 4,300 RPM...so it can go faster...why doesn't it after I disabled Q-Fan.
