Temperature Question

I have the processor in my sig.
Phenom II x4 black edition.
Its currently running all 4 cores at 44 degrees C each.
Is this a good temperature? the highest ive seen mine go is 61 That was during a stress test.
If this is a good temperature do i have some room to overclock in the future?

Alittle hot for running stock. You using the stock heatsink and fan? If so overclocking and raising the voltage will make that stock cooler temps heat up under load.

well i just let the computer sit for a good 30 - 40 minutes and did nothing on it with all programs closed.
it was 38degrees,
so that is my resting temperature.

And p.s YES that is stock heatsink, my case has some extra fans i installed though

Stock fans are crap. Look into a nice cooler like the CoolerMaster Hyper212+ or HyperN520. Also use some nice ArcticSilver5 thermal compound.

Those seem like O.K. temps. What thermal paste are you using? If you're using the stock paste, you may want to consider buying aftermarket paste that has better thermal conductivity before you overclock. Also, make sure that you apply a very small amount; it's only meant to fill microscopic gaps between the heatsink and the CPU, and anything extra will make your CPU hotter.

Ok thanks guys. It will be a while before i even look into overclocking,
But when i do. What is the difference between bios overclocking and just using AMD Overdive. (software overclocking) because i have used that to up my core multiplier from 16 to 18 and put my cpu from 3.2 to 3.6 and had only 2 -3 degrees difference. I ran prime 95 for 13 minutes using there test. And only reached 71 degrees. I was also using the computer and doing regular tasks while this was running and i got no errors or anything.

P.s. Yes i am using stock Everything, paste, fan, heatsink.

i am running the same processor in an antec 300-2 case , with stock cooler idle temp was about 40c, stress went to about 58c. I installed corsair
hc 40 water cooler and idle went to 35c and stress steady at 50c, i was
pretty happy with that ,seems like that processor runs hot, as my fx4170 at
4.5ghz is way lower on temps. your temps seem ok, regards
also bonus is I can heat my room with it and save on gas bill

I had a Artic Cooler x64 on my 955 before I upgraded to what I have now. It ran 30c idle and when I pushed it was 38 - 40 c.

I'm sitting at 43 idle with my 955 at stock clocks. The coolers on the AMD chips are absolute crap. If you don't plan on Overclocking a 212 seems kind of ridiculous, though.

I get into the mid to upper 50's when gaming and don't really have any issues. I also have a pretty well ventilated case to boot.

If you're a first time at overclocking you cpu or gpu use the bios don't/never use programs to overclock, 1. you'll most likely get your hardware damaged/destroyed 2. ruins your rma cause software overclocking can easily be detected. Lastly, get an aftermarket cpu cooler before overclocking, amd stock fans are noisy, and not good for overclocking. Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is a great aftermarket cpu cooler. Your choice of cooler will depend on your case, psu and mobo/cpu compatibility.
