Temperatures??

What temps should everything be running at on my system here are my specs...

CPU: Intel Pentium D 805 Smithfield @ 2.66Ghz
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3
RAM: Corsair XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2 800
GPU: onboard video for now...
DRIVE: Nec ND-3550A 16x DVD burner
SOUND: onboard sound & Virtual Reality Sound labs VRS 2.1C speaker system
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200RPM 16MB cache SATA 3.0GB/s
PSU: Antec SmartPower 2.0 450watt power supply (+12V1@15A & +12V2@17A)
CASE: Aspire X-Plorer black/blue steel mid tower atx

Right now the cpu gets up to like 62 degrees celsius at 100% load, is this ok for this cpu? and the motherboard gets up to like 42 degrees celsius.
 
Your cpu is getting hot when a good load is placed on it! If you are running the stock hsf that came with the cpu there check to see if the fan is running and not cluttered with dust. The thermal pad may also be letting go needing either a good replacement or perhaps the thought of a 3rd party cpu cooler with a larger sink and larger fan.

42C seen on a board with a good is well within the normal temp range while not the ideal. Additional or larger case fans will help bring the temps down inside the case. The better the air flow the cooler the temps overall.
 
it can just shut off and it can just fry while its on. Ive seen a cpu start smoking and then just failed.

Be glad that you only are getting 62C loads. The 8xx series was one of the worst heat producers that intel has created. During summer, my load is around 65C, and during winter it is around 55C (my room is <18C).

So basically the temps i have now are typical for the 805?
 
Well i hope it doesnt get any warmer during the summer, seeing how yours has a 10 degree difference in the summer. If mine went up 10 degrees, during the summer it would be like 70-72 degrees celsius :P
 
What cooler do you have on there? I had a Zalman CNPS7700alcu on mine, and it still got up to 80-85C during the summer. That's when I decided to hit the bullet and get a Zalman CNPS9500
 
There are a large number of makes and types of cpu coolers to look at in general. The Zalman and Artic Cooling lines are generally the most popular. Personnally the edge here is given to Zalman while AC also produces some great products for the tighter budget.

The Zalman CNPS 9500 has worked great on the Socket 939 AMD model cpu here. But you have to remember the older Pentium not latest Core 2 models by Intel often run warmer. I'm thinking about getting the Zalman CNPS 9500 but i see that theres a piece that goes underneath the motherboard for it to mount, and my question is how thick is this piece, i'm wondering if i will have enough room for it to mount.
 
Yeesh! It's been awhile since working with an Intel cpu holder. The back plates are not that heavy where it would pertrude out. Watch the one for AMD and click the whole installation link to see the difference there. You will have to pull off the stock hsf holder and slip the back plate behind the board which means unmounting it. With Intel you put these on before all the wiring and power connections are plugged in.

You would remove the mounting screws there and have to unplug a few things if you can lift it carefully for this. You better plan to rewire the board and simply take it out of the case for full access if you run into problems. Then you simply wait until it's back in and mounted to later lower the Zalman down inplace with the fresh application of AS5.
 
Not so long ago my computer was over heating (the one in my sig), i cleaned it out and the temps dropped from 85 degress celcius for the CPU at high load. Now, my CPU runs at about 55 degress celcius when under heavy load.

Its amazing what just a good clean will do !
 
right now my temps are 34 cpu/ 34 mobo

one word: C2D (well 2 words 1 number)

Well my heatsink/fan definitely has something to do with it and my case. The Pentium D's normally run kind of hot anyways. I wouldn't worry about those temps.
