Terrible internet connection

The internet connection on my computer is very laggy. Webpages take ages to load, sometimes not at all, or sometimes only halfway with faulty format. When i download files using download accelerator, my speed is about 1.4mbps. This lag is also not present in my other computer. when i turn on my comp, i'll have to wait about 5 minutes before i can connect to the internet (using web browser, msn...etc). At times, I'd just be unable to surf the net at all, even though other connection can be made, like torrent and msn.
 
Im really clueless on the specification of internet-related components, perhaps you could tell me how i could find those out? :X
as for my hardware, it's
MB: Asus P7H55D-M PRO with core i7 870
RAM: 2x2gb DDR3-1333
GPU: Asus GT96000
HDD: WD 1tb

I use Opera (mainly), Chrome and FF. Lately, Opera has been the laggiest.
 
yeah, i guess. both my phone and pc are connected to the modem, which is connected to the phone line.
 
Reset your modem and router if you have one. You also might want to call your internet provider and have them do a line test to check everything.

For now just post the results from the speedtest.

by "resetting the modem", do you mean simply switching it off and on again?
 
no at the rear of your router there will a small hole should say reset, you need a thin long item like an allan key, screwdriver etc use this push it inside the whole and you will feel a button press and hold it in for about 30 secs this will reset your router to as new setup
 
Your speedtest is pretty good, though a little high on the ping with you being less than 5 miles from the test server.
 
I just did the reset. Everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks so much! I'll post again should anything crop up the next time i restart. :)
