Tesco Finest Broadband - Not happy!

I have been with Tesco for about 3 years on the 1MB service, about a month ago I upgraded to the Finest broadband. I'm very dissapointed with it and now want to move the Be Unlimited but Tesco want £100 to get out of the new contract.

Here is an e-mail I have sent them:

"A couple of months ago I upgraded to Tesco Finest Broadband, previous to that I
was a broadband customer for about 3 or 4 years. Before Finest I was on the 1MB
unlimited service and using speedtests I was normally receiving speeds of 0.8 -
0.9MB. Now I have upgraded to Finest I often get speeds below this level,
sometimes as low as 0.2MB. Its very rare to get to the levels I used to get
with my old 1MB service. This is unacceptable and often makes online gaming
impossible. On reading your terms I was suprised to see that I am on a new 12
month contract, meaning I will have to pay £100 to switch to a more reliable
provider. It was never my intention to change provider so soon after my upgrade
but I am being forced into it by the regular slow speeds. If the service was
good I would not be wishing to leave so I don't see why I should have to pay
£100. I am happy to send back the new wireless router if required but I am very
reluctant to pay £100.

I would really appreciate a response and hope I can be excused from paying the
fee.
"

Another thing I forgot to mention in the e-mail. For the first 4 weeks on Finest the Tech support line is supposed to be free but when I had problems with the new wireless router they sent as part of the upgrade I had to pay 50p a minute because I was not a new customer. Surely if I am on a new contract I should have had the free phone line:mad:

Does anyone think I have any hope or am I fighting a losing battle.

Thanks.
Mark.

You won't win your fight at all, they are clauses in the contracts for a reason, companies don't take pity if you've agreed to it..

But i feel you're pain, im not with tesco, im with BT Yahoo, on an Upto 8Mb line i get as low as 128k speeds... at peak times. Real helpful BT, thanks a million.

You want the answer for this problem, well, there is no lsolution, but i can tell you what causes it a system implemented on 99.9% of all BT exchanges named DSLMax, its supposed to revolutionise line speedds and "sync" your line at the most stable speed it could support.

It never worked from day one and they've never fixed it either, its the biggest POS ever made, even bigger bad point? Theres no escaping it, if you have a BT line (nearly 100% of the UK does) then your internet and other line speeds will be controled by the DSLMax system.

Sucks to be in the UK

Suprisingly Tesco have got back to me pretty quickly.
They want me to do 3 speedtests, prefereably morning, afternoon and night.

I have done one this evening and I got 380Kb/s (0.38Mb) which sort of backs up my complaint.

I wonder what they will do next?

fight for your rights you upgraded to a certain speed and although you were never going to get that speed it is unaceptable that what you are getting is of such a poor quality, if they wont help solve the problem go to your local trade and standards with all the emails from you and tescos and and the speed test results that tesco have asked you to do also let tesco no you will be taking that step.
