testing new Linux release?

So have you guys tested the new releases of the Linux Flavors? I know openSuse 12.1 has been released, Fedora 16 and Ubuntu 11.10. I don't have anymore blanks and for some reason it wont put it so usb for me.

The one I am excited for it Linux Mint 12 which was just released and this one I am most excite about. Linux Mint U/I usually has been a disappointment for me, I feel like the menu was to cluttered and just never cared for the look. The old look and gnome 3 might give it the refresher it needed.

I might give that a try, I loved openSuse 11.4 but had some issues with the gpu drivers so I am hoping 12.1 has some fixes for that.

I've been meaning to try a distro with Gnome 3, so I might look into Mint 12. I'm currently running Crunchbang linux, although my desktop has been taken apart all over my desk for a few months now, so I'll have to put it back together for further linux experimentation. :)

Just remember that LM12 is a combinations of gnome 2.xx and 3.2, if you want true gnome 3.2 opensuse and Fedora is your best bet.

why don't you install a vbox. you don't have to burn ISOs this way.

I'm on mint 11 and like it so far. Easy to use, and I happen to like the menu setup. Mint and XP feel really similar, unlike the structure of ubuntu (havent liked any recent releases of Ubuntu). But lately I dont do much more with it than writing things for work, and play and come here with firefox, and lately been messing with perl more. Might get the mint 12 in a few months.

I have Fedora 16, and overall I'm a bit disappointed. For the first week or so I was a victim of constant kdelibs crashes (apparently that got fixed - hasn't happened once since the last kdelibs upgrade). KDE multi-monitor settings are still a bit weak and it refused to save my monitor layout, instead cloning the output every time I logged in (regardless of distro, Linux wants to make my external monitor the primary, this as well as KDE forgetting my settings was fixed with a custom xorg.conf). I'm still having a few minor issues that, though apparently related to the free radeon drivers, only manifest themselves on KDE. I already installed and tried xfce, I think I might actually stick with it, it's very nice.

It just saddens me that even though KDE is probably the best DE as far as functionality, cool features and even looks go, I almost always seem to come across all kinds of little things, mostly only minor inconveniences that combined just kill the experience for me. KDE 3.5 was almost perfection... it seems that with KDE4 there's always something.

Well I just installed Linux Mint 12, and honestly I think they got the U/I perfect. Unity is okay, gome 3 is nice but Mint got it right by combining gnome 3 and gnome 2 while making there start menu less crazy. it is what gnome 3 should have been. Ubuntu should be a little worried.

Yeah I saw the new menu look, ugh. Looks like ubuntu, hate ubuntu menus, no offense. I like mint 11 because it has everything on the bottom bar. Yeah you can say I'm too used to win xp, but I like things how I like em.

My question for you would be, does mint 12 run smoother? What problems have you had? What I love about mint is that it installs fast and without problems and I haven't had any major issues with it. How many OS's do that!

Just wish they would include a few simple games, Halo anyone?! ha ha ha

Ha ha post 999, I'm the devil!

It kind of looks like Unity but not as annoying, example being if I drag my courser to the far left screen to app dock pops up, still have to click on the bottom menu button to open it up.

Some glitches are from the menu button you cannot add/remove apps from your favourite list like you could in Linux Mint 11 and it still can be done but it is from the gnome 3 U/I in the top left corner it can be done here. They say that they are going to fix that in the near future. As far as performance Mint does a little better then Ubuntu in the sense of Using about 150 MB less memory and I am getting about 30 minutes better battery life. One thing they still do that annoys me that they have always have done is how much software it comes with I think I counted four media players last night that all do the same thing, they need to stop cateringto everyone and pick what they like.

I am thinking about using Linux Mint Debian, no more upgrades, a faster and less resource platform but I do have to go back to that horrible U/I that I did not care for.
