The 4-pin power connector on my mobo...

Whats the 4 pin connector on my mobo for? looks like'd fit the 4 pin connector that pentium 4s use.....do i need to use it for anything?

thats what i thought, would i need to plug it in? my psu has the 20/24 connector, should i use the detacheable "4" and use that? it fits...

Your power supply, if it is a 24pin with a detatchable 4pin, should also have an 8pin that splits into 2 4pins. One of those should be plugged into the 4pin socket you're refering to, it is nessecary and supplies the motherboard with its 12v power.

The power supply instruction manual should have stated what plugs in where.

It won't work, and if you try it you'll be most likely relying on the safety features of the psu to prevent damaged hardware.

What model is your PSU? I find it hard to believe that the connectors dont include one for the mobo 4-pin. But the 4-pin unplugged from the 24-pin is definatley not the way to go. If nessecary you can buy adaptors to convert a standard molex connector into a 4-pin plug.

the company must have made a mistake, on the box it says there is a 12v rail, but there isnt....my brother has an adapter though, thanks for the help

Of course there's a 12v rail, the pc wouldn't run without one. But if the problem's solved, then the problem's solved. And you're welcome, any time. :)
