The best card for a low budget

Hi all :)

Let me say this first: The prices in our country are different, but the range should be the same. Let me give you an example; if the price of a 8600GT is $100, then at our country it would be about €120(just a guess). But, it doesn't change the fact that the 8600GT is more expensive then a 7600GT :) Get it? Here is my question :):

I have an amount of money to spend on a GPU. I've looked up a couple cards, and this is what I've found:

The 7800 Series
The 7900 Series (not the 7950 series)
The 8600 Series

Which one should I buy in that range (Example >> 7800GT)?
So, the card should be in that area, of course, you can always give me an example of the ATI cards, but I don't know them well, so I didn't add them to my list.

Let it be so cheap as possible. Thanks anyway

If those cards are your price range
7900GS is a good DirectX 9 card for the price now.
8600GTS for DirectX 10 is in the same price range.
Or with ATI
X1950GT or Pro DirectX 9 are pretty good in that price range

Second hand: XFX 7800 GT 256MB for €95 and a 7900GT(probably 256MB) for €90. Which one is better? I suppose the 7900GT?

I've just compared the 8600GT with a 7900GT, and it's a neck on neck race. But I think the 7900GT outperformed the 8600GT mostly, but sometimes the 8600GT won. But this was the 256 MB version. But don't forget, if I buy a 8600GT, it would be a new one and if I buy a 7900GT it would be second hand. Am totally not interested in DX10.

Hmmm... Tough one. And yeah, I want to make use of the Pure HD video (or something).

You said the ATI, you mean by that the Sapphire ATI X1950 PRO 256MB? Because that's €119.90 and the 8600GT 512MB is 129.90, in other words, the ATI is cheaper( not much tough). Does the Sapphire ATI X1950 PRO 256MB outperforms the 7900GT and the 8600GT? Then I will definitely go for that card, but I need to be sure.

Are you sure you're not referring to the 8600Gts? Because the 8600gt is not the 7900gt's equal, moreso the 7600gt's.

The x1950pro is comparable or slightly better than the 7900gs.

The ones your talking about the 7900GT is the best, the X1950pro uses more power and is kinda in between a 7900GS and GT. For directX 10 cards I would not go any lower than the 8600GTS

7900gt beats all of the cards you mentioned, especially the 8600GT. The memory on that card doesn't give it any advantage over the 256mb cards.

Well... I have an other problem (maybe not), the power consumption. I heard that the ATI consumes a lot of power. I just have a PSU of 450W, could it resist the ATI x1950pro? And what about the 7900GT?

Do you guys think, that I can play Need For speed Pro street at full resolution(1024 x 786) and Max quality? I know, the system requirements are not out yet, but just a guess :) Thanks anyway

The wattage is fine for either, but what about current? the 7900gt needs 20-22 amps on the +12v line, while the 1950pro needs something between 25-30.

Yeah, current or amperage/amperes, of the +12v line.

The 7800gts is not better than the 7900gt, on the contrary, however it's not far worse either.

26amps will be more than enough for a 7900 series card. A x1950 series may be alittle bit too much for it, then again it may work flawlessly.
