The best desktop pc to get?

Hi,
Im looking to upgrade from my HP pavilion Elite HPE-495uk. This computer has been very good and still does everything I need, but I run a business and could do with buying a new one and getting a support package to cover against any hardware failures.

Im looking at two:

I know nothing about Lenovo. Are they good? Which is better? HP or Lenovo? Both offer 3 year support for small extra cost. They both seem a good price for the specs. Any other brands to look at? Dell seem rubbish, they dont even allow intergrated sound card on XPS!
 
Well since I am ordering myself a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop on Monday I may be a little biased now... ;)

But actually, if you're spending over £1,000 I think you could get something much better for less if you build it yourself. Whilst I would/am buying a Lenovo laptop, I wouldn't buy a pre-built desktop from them or anybody since I'll always build my own. Building yourself is a lot less scary and difficult as it sounds and it's great fun getting all the parts arriving and putting it together.

What exactly are you going to be doing? Unless you're doing gaming or video editing or suchlike then you don't need to spend anything close to £1,000.
 
Thanks for reply. I do graphics, multitaking, internet, design, gaming, etc. I'd buy a custom built one but I want the support package for hardware failure as I dont want to have to take it to computer shop.
 
To be honest I've had things go wrong with custom builds and I've just sent the faulty components back to the shop I bought them from and had them replace it no problems, so I would still probably look at building your own.
 
I've looked at companies offering custom build, but they seem a bit iffy with reviews. Im thinking i'll go with HP as it's a great spec and I can get 10% off + 5% cashback. I know if it goes wrong I can get them sort out any issue fast. I've been happy with my current HP. I wont upgrade for a few months yet anyways.
I can imagine you can get more for your money if you want to build your own. I did really want to build my own years ago, but im off the idea now and happy to buy one from a company.
 
Saying that if I had the extra money i'd probably give the Lenovo a go. I just dont know much about Lenovo.. are they a new company? Are they reliable? Etc.
 
Lenovo is the world's biggest PC manufacturer (overtaking HP last year) and came second in customer satisfaction for laptops in 2013, second only to Apple. I'm not sure what their desktops are like since I've never owned or seen one but their laptops are good.

They do however tend to be quite expensive, and in this case although the Lenovo has 8GB more RAM and has a 4770K as opposed to the 4770 (difference being you can overclock the 4770K), the HP is better value for money and believe me, 16GB of RAM is a lot! I've got 16GB in my desktop and for what you want to do it will be plenty!

So I think I would probably go with the HP on this occasion. I have used HP's business desktops (ProDesk) and they seem solid. I've not used one of their consumer desktops (Envy) for a while, but I don't think you'll notice the difference.
