I plan on getting a HTPC (home theatre PC) and equipping it with two 250gig hard drives and loading it up with music.

I currently have 8700 or more songs ripped mostly at 320kps mp3.

I'm going to rip all my music ONCE MORE! What would be my ultimate lossless audio format? Wave? Ogg vorbs?

your input is highly appreciated.

Also, is there a way to rip a DVD-audio 5.1 disc (or SACD disc) and play it back somehow maintaining the perfect lossless original? I ordered an E-MU 1212m sound card, so that's what will play it back.

Also, which media player is user friendly and can play back 5.1? THANKS!!!

another question for ya:

Imagine you have to rip a few hundred cds. What is the best audio ripper (i currently use CDex)?

Is there a way to rip more than one CD at once using two optical drives? What kind of hardware would I have to perform that without errors at a decent speed?

A music-server: what kind of specs should I concentrate on? (cpu/ram?)

Gee I like to ask a lot of questions, eh?

windows media player can rip cd's.

Just to let you know ahead of time, if your planning on buying music online and then intending to share it with other computers, it wont work.

No, I don't plan on buying music online, i know they have some sort of protection as i've ripped cds at my buddies house and it didnt work on mine..

Space is NO question, i'll rip things at 30mb a song if needed. Quality?

cda? how do you rip something in .cda (isn't it already in that format on the disk?)

What if I put 600 cd-rom drives on my computer and had a disk in each one.. that'd make for a complicated 'my computer' folder, no doubt.

i voted for other because i prefer wma. its pretty much the same quality as mp3, but doesnt take up as much space.
uhh isnt wmas like 5 times bigger than an average mp3

i voted for acc because it gives much more higher than mp3 or wma

96Kb/s aac ~ 192kb/s mp3

192kb/s aac ~ wav
