the best thermal paste

i had posted what my setup would be and somebody said that the link i posted was some higher end better stuff because i originally had AS5 instead of that but i don't understand why a couple degrees cooler or warmer is a huge deal

From my experience, arctic silver will keep it a couple degrees cooler than stock paste. However, I read a guide a while back about a guy who made his own paste out of diamond dust (which has a significantly higher thermal conductivity than silver) and some kind of silicon paste and it supposedly made a drastic difference. Really though, as long as you have some kind of paste that's been applied well, it won't make a drastic drastic difference.

x23-7783d is the best stuff out there, beats as5 easily by a few c. Arctic silver 5 is old stuff that just insnt that great anymore.

I used NT-H1 and it seems to work great. I'm sure the heat dissapation is more a factor of my heatsink (NH-U12P SE2) than the paste though. It came in a pretty big syringe that made it really easy to apply. You don't need to spread it either, it's designed for compression spreading, you just put a drop in the middle of the heatspreader and stick your heatsink on.

A good graph to go by from [H]:

so the graph is saying that se 23 is the best but there really isn't a big difference in any of them. i mean does it really matter which one you use just as long as it isn't some off brand glue

Well remember that 2-3c difference is quite alot on that graph, as if i remember right they were running a water loop which keeps the temperatures lower to begin with. Thermal paste will affect your delta t on air moreso than water.

so do you think that AS5 will be fine because i do plan to overclock but nothing that is too high because i don;t want my cpu to fry

If your ordering from newegg, type "G751" in the search box. Its marketed by masscool, its just shin etsu G751. Its one of the best pastes but still about 1c higher than X23-7783D.
