The Big Typhoon: big size, big cooling but OMG the big weight!

OK, I here the ThermalTake Thermatalke CL-P0114 Big Typhoon is one of the best (and most massive) LGA775 Coolers out there. Those who use it say it works great, but say its size and weight of all things can be dangorious! Apperently it's weight can "supposidly" crack a MOBO in half....I want the thing badly and I know installing it will be a pain, but thats not what I'm worried about. I wondering if it can reall do that...Its got a 120mm fan and 50+ CFM and only 18 dBA and all I'm worried about is "IS it true that a CPU heatsink and fan can do such a thing as crack a MOBO in half????"

i don't think that it is that heavy to crack the mobo, if it was i am sure you would hear a lot more about it, or they would stop selling that product and there would be a recall

There are a lot of HSFs that are heavier than the Typhoon, and you shouldn't have any trouble provided you've mounted it correctly.

It will crack the motherboard if you shake the case about.
That string idea is very good, as I'm not sure if the BT can bend the motherboard slightly over time.

how heavy exacxtly is the typhoon? i wouldnt worry about it too much. i took the mobo out of our old pentium mmx compy from like 1996 and i nedt it. and it bend quite a bit, and it was pretty rigid. i didnt snap it so i am not sure when it would break.

hmm the Big Typhoon....

The mounting system is nutorious for not being very good. You may also want to change the fan...

You would probubly have been better of with a Sunbeam Tuniq Tower, a Scythe Infinity, or even an Arctic Cooling Freezer....

Are you saying an Arctic Cooling Freezer would be better than the Big Typhoon for cooling?

possibly.

The BT is good if there is a hole in your side panel, and if its properly mounted with AS5 or the like, them its probubly slightly better.

in a 'normal' case, id choose the Freezer. Its quieter, and cheaper aswell.
