the essentials for building a cpu

What is everything i need to build a computer???
i know i need a case, motherboard, processor, cd/dvd drive, power supply,hard drive, sound card, video card. What else??

Cooling system just means fans to cool the components down yeh, amongst other things.

ok....what do you plan on doing with it? It is way cheaper to build, so I suggest it.

If you're overly worried about cooling you might want to get some better thermal grease then what comes with the CPU cooler. You can get a tube of Arctic Silver 5 for $10. You also might want to get some zip ties or twisty ties to keep the wires away from the fans.

Anyway, you'll also need an operating system to make it work, like Windows, if you don't already have one

Heehee, I know what you mean. For some reason, old people always refer to the entire computer as the "hard drive", and it makes me cringe every time.

Alright, if you want opinions on what you need, let us know a couple things. I take it that you didn't read the forum sticky or else you would have already listed then
1) Price, what do you want to spend on this
2) What are you going to be using this for? Web surfing and music? Gaming? Solitare and microsoft office?
After that you'll get a better response
