First, it's Factions, not fractions. Now, if you make a PvP character then you'll start off at level 20 and will only be able to fight against human players, you will not be able to play the story mode. When you make a role-playing character you will start off at level 1 and will be introduced to the basics(you can skip the tutorial if you want), and you will be able to play through the entire story. It'd be best if you made a role-playing character and went through the tutorial since you're new to the game.

Now, for a little extra info about the GW experience, mainly the experience with other people. PEOPLE WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU. If they say something like "WTS Super rare bone staff x-damage, x-requirement for 30K" it's a scam. They take the weapons from the first Guild Wars and bring it over to Factions and try to trick you into thinking it's a good weapon, it's not. You'll also hear about people "running" others to new towns/outposts/missions. NEVER pay up front because 70% of the time they will run away with your money and you can't do anything about it.

I'll try to answer any other questions people may have.

I just seen something about Factions on the TV. Supposed to offer endless levels, 2 new races, more continents, etc. Seems like a wonderful expansion. And all that with no monthly subscription fee to play online. Will HAVE to get this game.

Actually, this is not an expansion. It is a completely new, stand alone game from the first one, although they are compatible with eachother. As for gaining a little experience with the game, I would recommend that you go around with a PvE character for a while to get a feel for the game and what spells/characters you like to use. Then go into the PvP arena, that place is tough for people that have been playing for a long time, much less a person that just started the game... :)

The game is technically an expansion to the 1st Guild Wars, but it's also stand-alone. The graphics look the same as the 1st Guild Wars, but everything looks very nice if you have everything set to high with AA on the highest setting.

Guild Wars Prophecies is about the best warriors of Tyria fighting and protecting their home, Ascalon. While you're on a mission to take out one of the Charr(bad guys) commanders Ascalon is destroyed and only a few survivors are left. That is pretty much just the prelude to the 1st story. There is a 2 year skip and you head back to the remnants of Ascalon, and from there on you take on several missions to defeat the charr and protect your homeland. Eventually the Charr are taken out of the picture and you know travel to other places and eventually start helping a group of "good" guys known as the White Mantle...I'll leave it at that since the story becomes a little confusing with all the plot twists.

Now, onto Guild Wars Factions. The story so far is that you are one of best soldiers in Cantha and have been invited to train with Master Togo in the Shing Jea Monastary(think I spelled that wrong). You take a few training missions and are eventually travelling with Master Togo to go meet the Prime Minister at his estate. When you arrive there most of the guards of the estate have gone mad and have started to kill the sane guards. You fight you're way through them with the help of Master Togo and Yoji Tahn(some other NPC ally). After killing the guards you reach the prime minister and see that he is still safe...or so you thought! DUN DUN DUNNNNN! The prime minister is diseased and turns into to a monster, of couse you have to kill him. After that you and Master Togo realize that there is a plague spreading across Cantha and you must help stop it and prevent it from spreading. That's the story so far. The game has only been out a few days and not many people have beaten it.

Any other questions?

(my longest post ever)
