I am not saying this bloke is a scammer, but if you have a look at the two PC's he is selling, he's selling one pc worth about $4,500 for $3,000 Buy it now, and the start price was $250...

Sorry I forgot the link here it is:http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZausgamingpcs

And heres where it gets really sticky, he joined ebay three days ago. and has 0 feed back.

So what do you guys think?

Scam or not a scam?

Yeah, I am not thinking about getting it.

It was a friend of mine who asked my oppinion.

But good damn, it just looks like so much of a scam to me...

Kent.

I have no idea.

My opinion: if you want to spend $3000+ on a computer, build it yourself or get it from a shop.

Yeah, I totaly agree.

But I also want to discuss the integrity of this sale on ebay, I am going to be watching this guy and see if he gets good feed back from the trade...

Kent..

Well if hes selling a 4.5k computer... for 3k.. then either he's an guy who didnt build that computer and just thought up a price or a guy that needs cash quick or a guy thats scamming ppl. =D

If he is doing that, why is the desription of the pc pretty darn good?

And also the pictures look real?

Kent...

Yeah I get the idea guys, building our self is better, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought about whether its a scam or not.

You should "NEVER" buy anything that costs "Over $200" from someone who doesn't have at least 100 feedbacks or so, and at least 93% positive.

You can sit around and wait for him to gain some feedback, but that is still useless. He can get his friends or make other accounts and get a couple of feedback hits without even selling the item.
The auction ends, and it gets relisted, no one bought or sold a thing, but you can both give and recieve feedback. I've done it.

So no, it is not smart to bid on something that expensive without information on the seller.
When it comes to websites, to check if they are authentic, you check the BBB (Better Business Bereau)
When it comes to EBAY you check the FEEDBACK

You might as well donate your money to a good charity

LE0O37 thanks for your input but it would also be good if you read the full topic before posting...

Thanks anyway buddy.

You shouldn't ask a dumb question.
You asked, does it look like a scam, and if we think its a scam ?
We can not determine that.

You also stated that he just opened the account and has no feedback, that giving I will not assume it is a scam, but I will recommend you do not buy from him. Even if it is not a scam, you don't know how responsible the seller is, and if everything functions well or will ship fast.

I might not be a computer expert, but I do know ebay/shopping/selling online.

The starting price is never a factor.
If the item great deal or a hot item, you can start at .01 with no reserve and still sell at a great price or get what you wanted for it.

Just trying to help you, you could've at least posted the url or item #'s
Peace

just because its a new account means nothing. everybody had a new account on ebay at one point. he wanted to sell the pc so had to open an account.

as for the value and sale price, that has little to do with it either. he could have built the pc for cheaper (like from newegg) and is judgeing the cost based on what you pay to buy a compairable pc from a major retailer like CompUSA or Circuit City, which would be 2x-4x the cost to build from a place like newegg or pricewatch. the pc in my sig only cost around 1k for me to build, but i can bet it'd be more then 3k if i bought it at a major retail store because they would probably classify it as a server due to the hard drive space, ram, and case and thus charge alot more for it.

as for the 250 starting bid. no big deal. thats what the bid reserve is for. auctions starting at a lower price often get more bidders because people see the low price and bid high hoping to get a great deal.

but yea, you could have atleast posted a link to the auction so we could see it and make a guess about its legitimacy :P

Doesn't paypal protect you?

Despite being a new seller, I always thought that if the item description says everything you want, like "new, working or guaranteed not DOA"(dead on arrival), then doesn't using paypal mean that you are protected, if the seller does turn out to be a scam?

Actually, now, Im not so sure I want to know the answer to that. Im getting pretty addicted to ebay. I just bought a $300+ Blu Ray burner from a seller with less than 50 feedbacks, despite, LEO037, saying "Never" do that. I prey to god, he's not right. It's still in transit.

But as far as just answering your question, I personally dont think its a scam, if you have paypal protection and you make sure you read ALL the fine print. Make sure it doesn't say something like "This item is a miniature replication to be used as a piggy bank."

$4,500 and $3,000 is heck of a lot of money for a computer. Only if it includes a 24" or larger sized monitor and the best $1,000 cpu could I understand a computer costing that much. Oh wait, I forgot, I've seen some graphics cards for $1000-$2000 and more. Crazy, but I guess its possible.

The reason, why the starting bids are so low, is because ebay charges you a different price, for whatever "starting price" you insert. The higher your starting price is.. . . the more you have to pay ebay, just for the insertion price; the final sale value has another price-I think its about 5.25% of the selling price.

my money is a scam....I was promptly ripped off on something like this but it was with a ton of PC games not a 3k computer.
