Well, i am getting around $2500 before summer is over, and ya i know its early but i am eager to finally get my freaking desktop ordered and built.

I was first planning on spending around $800 for the computer and monitor, but i decided to go all out on this one, so i'm spending around $1300 for an awesome movie center so me and my girlfriend can watch movies on an insanely big screen at home.

so here are the options that i have made:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103046
GPU: waiting for 8600, 8600GT or 8600Ultra
HDD: already have 250gb hdd
Moniter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824014127 / http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824999111 also im debating on weather to get an lcd to go along with it, or if i will just use one of the 2 CRTs laying around
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817189003
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813138036
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820161675
Speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16836116153

or exchange these items, in any combination:

or you can try and come up with something else.......

notice: the budget includes dvd burner, wireless card, HSF, sound card and a few other things not mentioned

Okay, first of all. AMD? No way. Intel would be much better for their Core 2 Duo's. Second of all. I would not get a projector. That was my plan also. But then I found something out about all Projectors. Every year, the bulb dies and you have to get a new one. The bulb costs over $500. So if you want to spend that every year, be my guest. But I would never do that. Now then, My first couple lines may have been critical in your choicing of AMD. But you will thank me. I will be back with another post of a new computer.

you dont have to spend an extra $500 for that additional feature

well, that is a nice build, but i need a nice monitor ATLEAST......i'll see what i can come up with, and the AMD is because it is really cheap and i don't do anything hardcore that requires a fast processor...

Well it's a media PC, so he isn't exactly going to need all that extra power.

One thing I do suggest he adds is a tv tuner/video capture card. It will be a great addition to a media center PC.

You're right about all the extra power thing. It would cut down the cost a lot if he did AMD instead of Core 2. Makes sense now. Just trying to help. :)

ya thats what i was going with, i have a tv tuner, but the big question is what to view it on, i would have went with the projector anyway, but now i've actually looked at a projector, and it doesn't look that great from anywhere but a bit of distance.......and Tv's aren't high enough resolution and the biggest lcd display in my budget is a 22"

Well if you got a bigger tv, you would naturally go further away from it. Just as if you were watching TV. Except you would be using a computer. I've seen big 60" screens used for monitors, and it looks good from a distance.

I would say that it is a no-brainer. Yes, it might cost a bit more to get a Core 2 Duo. However, the power consumption will be basically the same. To me, it is worth it.

will 1366 x 768 actually look decent when i'm on the computer doing other things? because seriosly on my 17" laptop screen 1440x900 is awesome, the TV would be 32+ " and have a lower resolution........

or would i have to use one of the CRT's to do regular computer stuff?
